Use OvrC Pro remote services to connect to Ruckus Unleashed networks

Connect to Ruckus Wi-Fi access points using OvrC

Follow these easy steps to use the OvrC platform to remotely connect to, view, and configure the Ruckus Unleashed network as if you were on-site. This is great for troubleshooting or making changes without rolling a truck.

This article will presume that you have completed the following:
1. A completely set up and fully functioning Ruckus Unleashed wifi network, ensuring all steps are complete following our Ruckus 101 configuration guide. If you haven't done so yet, please follow that guide now. The most critical part will be ensuring that you are using a Management IP address that is not inside the DHCP Pool and does not conflict with any other ip address on the network. For best practices, you should use the same IP address as a standard across all jobs. In this example, we have used a management ip address of 192.168.5.4.

2. A completely set up and fully functioning OvrC customer account with an OvrC Pro "hub device". At the time of this writing, this could be enabled on an OvrC Pro Hub standalone device, an Araknis Router, or on certain Control4 controllers. If you are not familiar with how to enable this please reach out to SnapOne support. Once you have the customer account configured, and the OvrC Pro device has scanned the network, you will be ready to proceed.

Step 1:
Log into the OvrC dashboard website with your credentials. (currently: http://app.ovrc.com)

Step 2:
Search for the customer site, and select the customer site to go to the customer site dashboard.

Step 3:
Click "Devices". You should now see a list of all the devices the OvrC Pro Hub device has scanned.

Step 4:
Look for the Ruckus Management IP address you configured as part of the setup of the Ruckus Unleashed Network. For this example, we used 192.168.5.4. On the right hand side under the Actions menu, click the 3 dots and click "web connect".

Step 5:
You'll be asked how you want to connect. Choose HTTPS port 443 and click Connect on that line.

Step 6:
Congrats! You should now see the Ruckus Unleashed login page. Log in with your credentials and you'll be able to do anything with the Unleashed system.
This works reliably because no matter which AP is currently running unleashed master, the host service always responds to http on the management IP address so you don't have to know the IP address of whichever AP is currently the Unleashed Master.

FAQ:
Question:
Don't I have to set up SNMP? Whenever I click the name of the Access Point I get taken to a page and I am presented with the following message:
'Ruckus Device Detected
We've detected that this device may be a Ruckus product, but we were unable to connect to it. Please make sure that SNMP is enabled on the device, and that the proper community strings are entered below. The default is usually your username plus READ for read community and your username plus WRITE for write community.'

Answer:
While you can certainly configure SNMP to bring select data from the AP into the OvrC ecosystem, this is not necessary to do to be able to remotely connect to the Unleashed System. You can skip SNMP set up entirely if you like.
